Personal History Shel was on track to become a great physician, in the top of her class at medical school. During her first year of residency a criminal patient was brought in with severe injuries obtained during his capture. He turned out to be a serial rapist and murderer and what no one knew was that one of his victims had been Shel's older sister.

Nobody knows exactly what happened, how the man suffered a massive brain embolism. Shel was notoriously silent about the subject, and there were rumors and innuendo that she had killed him, or refused treatment. There wasn't enough evidence of murder, but Shel was brought up on charges of criminal negligence.

The event sparked a bit of a scandal on Andoria. Many spoke of Shel's actions approvingly as an "honor killing", a throwback to the pre-Federation days. Others decried her as a murderer. Shel let people say and think what they would and awaited her fate.

The magistrate finally decided on a politically expedient sentence: Shel was to serve for five years in the Starfleet Marines where her skills were put to use as a medical corpsman.

Shel refused to be pigeonholed, however. She wanted to be available to front line troops who needed her skills and insisted on full combat training, even taking private lessons. A few years into her service she was handpicked to serve in the Marine contingent on the USS Nemesis.

Following her Marine service, Shel returned to medicine. Starfleet Medical refused to reinstate her medical license, but they allowed her to complete the nursing program. A bit bitter that her skills were being wasted, Shel was then transferred to from the Marines to Starfleet and posted aboard the USS Nimitz, then the Camelot.

Recently Shel returned to the Marines as a corpsman, as well as helping out as a nurse in Sickbay when not on Search and Rescue operations. She transferred to the USS Nightingale.
